When it was time to top-up my foundation stash, the first place I always seek out, is the Estee Lauder counter. Those that have followed me will already know that Double Wear is my holy grail of foundations. It is little wonder that it was voted the UK’s No 1 Foundation, boasting 15 hour staying power, SPF 10 and a winning formula that does not come off on clothes. I have tried so many different foundations over the years in a quest for the flawless complexion that we all crave, but few have even come close to Double Wear.
I have long suffered with skin that is prone to breakouts, so I always look for a thicker, more heavy-duty foundation for coverage. Double Wear gives amazing results, without looking cakey, which, in my experience, is where others fail. I tend to find that the nose suffers most by 5pm and many thicker foundations will sit in your pores and make blemished skin appear even worse.
When choosing the right colour, Estee Lauder offer a colour matching service, which helps pair you with the perfect shade. Honestly, when I picked out my foundation this time I was quite disappointed with the Counter Assistant. She picked out a shade that was far too light for my skin tone, and after dragging half of the make-up off of one of my cheeks, I look like i’d been attacked with flour. In these instances, I try to be assertive and say ‘That’s not what I am looking for’ as I simply will not wear it if it doesn’t feel right. I picked out another couple of shades and tried them on myself and walked away with the one which I felt most comfortable with.
Shopping for make-up can feel like quite a pressurising experience if you are given the hard sell, without any of the skill and expertise you are looking for!
Another area which I am always retouching, is my eyebrows. They are naturally very thick and grow at rapid speed. Colour-wise I go for a dark brown/black shade, but it definitely veers more towards the black, as many of the dark brown shades I’ve tried, seem to have a red-hue to them, which looks bizarre next to almost black brows.
The Estee Lauder Automatic Brow Pencil Duo is an amazing tool. You can draw in your brows with one end, and blend using the other. I also use the brush to fill in any gaps with powder. I really love the Dark Brown/Black shade as it is not quite black, but a genuine dark brown, (without any of those annoying red hues). As a plus, the pencil has an almost waxy feel to it, which holds my brows in place really well.
This weekend Estee Lauder were on ‘Gift’, so I walked away with a small Advanced Night Repair (great for those annoying spots that pop up at the end of the day), Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam (Perfect to take on holiday!), a small pot of Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Ageing Cell Power Creme and Anti-Ageing Eye Cream. All of this was accompanied by a luxury make-up bag!
