With summer around the corner (summer is somewhat of a looser term in the UK), the holiday season is creeping upon us, one flip flop at a time. My family & I are soon travelling to Tenerife for a week to soak up some sun and enjoy some much needed family time. And so begins the annual Bikini search!
This can be a real minefield for most of us. I cannot say how thankful I am for online shopping as trying on bikini’s in fitting rooms never seems particularly flattering.
Being a mum, and also having just passed the ’30’ mark, I am often being pushed into a swimsuit or something a little more formal, and whilst I always look to remain stylish & classy, I’m not quite ready to throw away my string bikini!
When shopping for a bikini (I would like to think) I know what style suits me and my body shape. As shoppers, we are very fortunate, in that we are spoilt for choice. When you have identified what will work for you both practically and aesthetically, the shopping can really begin.
I am 5ft 10 and a size 10. I am naturally pear shaped, so I try to lengthen my legs and slim my thigh/hip area as much as possible. Luckily, high legged bottoms have finally made a comeback! Woohoo!
A huge trend in summer swimwear is the halterneck bikini. I absolutely love this look, as you will see from my picks below. The halterneck has been seen on the catwalk at all major fashion weeks internationally, and I really think this is a trend that is transferable to the highstreet for everyone.
So, here are my top picks:
ASOS Mix & Match Crochet Halter Neck Bikini £18.00.
White can be a tricky colour to pull off, but I intend to have a spray tan done before I take my pasty limbs anywhere near the beach! I love the high legged bottoms and the halterneck is delicate and not too top heavy.
Paperdolls Mesh Floral Details Halter Neck Bikini £28.00.
I love the mesh fabric on this bikini. It adds a more delicate feel to an otherwise solid Bikini. The cute flower detail adds a little interest on the hips. This bikini looks really practical too. If I have one too many ice creams, the high waisted bottoms will disguise a multitude of sins. A classy bikini with a sexy feel.
New Look Red Bardot Neck Frill Trim Bikini £23.98.
New Look Red Bardot bikini
My next choice is reflective of one of my all time favourite necklines. I absolutely love the bardot neckline. It is so feminine and flattering to all shapes and sizes. Red is one of my favourite colours, and as a dark haired lady, I find the red really pops. I will definitely be picking this up. I can already imagine teaming it with some mid-rise denim hot pants and sandals for an evening beach-party look.
Forever21 Lace Up Bikini £28.00
If you happen to be following me on Instagram (@wonderlingblog) you will know that I have a real soft-spot for a lace-up top. Perhaps it is a subtle nod to my 90’s upbringing! I love this bikini as the top is just a little bit sexy, and will carry an outfit through to the evening.
H & M Bikini Set £21.98 (mix and match)
H & M Floral Print Bikini
H & M have a great selection that you can mix and match. This Floral print bikini is super cute and will look amazing with a tan. There are a lot of floral prints in stores this summer and this is definitely one of my favourites.
Which of my choices is your favourite? Are there any styles you are looking out for this summer? Are you a high or low waisted kind of girl?
