Spring is now officially here! Hooray! As much as I love the coziness of winter, big jumpers and the fact that bed socks are acceptable both day and night, I am so excited to be able to shrug off the cold! Let the sun shine!
With the changing weather comes a change in make-up too. I, for one cannot wait to ditch my heavy foundation and wear something a little lighter. Whilst I always want a flawless finish, as soon as the sun is out I need sweat-proof make-up that won’t leave me with a thick, plastic-looking shine.
The key to achieving this, for me, has been a combination of a good base, a light foundation and some clever concealing! My skin tends to perk up a little during the summer months, so I tend not to need as much concealer as I do during the winter months.
I would highly recommend using the Lancôme ‘La Base’. It helps keep my make-up in place and where I have larger pores, it ensures that these don’t show through when I am wearing a lighter foundation. I love Benefit Pore Professional when my skin is looking a little more tired and blemished, as an alternative.
After my base I use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. It looks so natural and stays put when the temperature rises. This is so important to me as a mum of two, as I am up at the crack of dawn and need a good 12 plus hours of coverage. With a large portion of my day being spent in an artificially air-conditioned office, I really need something that is moisturising as well as concealing, for my skin as the air-con dries my skin out, often resulting in flaky areas.
To set, I use Bobbi Brown Loose Powder. I absolutely love Bobbi Brown as a brand. The products are amazing quality. Having tried so many powders over the years, I can confidently say that this one keeps shine at bay, and lasts for ages! The last one I had lasted over 9 months so it was well worth the price. With a greasy t-zone, I need a powder that will stop the ‘nose-shine’, without congealing. This is something that Bobbi Brown always succeeds at.
I always use a little bronzer to contour. This adds an extra summer glow. I love this Clarins one as it isn’t too heavy and you can really build up the colour.
I haven’t included my blusher in the picture, but I use Nars blusher in Orgasm. It is such a beautiful colour and has a light sheen to it, giving a real glow to the skin. I normally don’t need to use a highlighter on my cheekbones when I’ve used this.
For Eyes I love this Nars Kalahar duo. The smoky eye is slightly toned down in summer, so I will use lighter brown shades to create a smoky effect, without looking to heavy-eyed. These bronze colours look great one with just a small shimmer to them.
As soon as summer appears I love to spruce up my lipstick choices and opt for something bright. As a nude lipstick lover, this may come as a surprise, but a bright lip, with more subtle make-up can pass day and night I think.
I adore this Dior lipstick in Coral, with a smoky eye. It will take you from day to night, without looking to try-hard. When wearing in the day I apply over a lip moisturiser for a lighter look.
I hope that this has given you all a bit of an insight into my beauty favourites. With nearly twenty years experience, trying and testing a multitude of brands and products, I really feel like the choices I make are well informed and help me to get the finish and the look I want.
How does your make-up change from winter to summer? Do you feel confident enough to wear bright, bold colours in the daytime?
