I have mentioned in earlier posts that I used to have quite bad skin when I was in my teens. Even as an adult in my 30’s I still get breakouts and have an uneven complexion. I follow a strict skincare routine and have invested a lot of time into figuring out what will help to manage this. Fortunately it is a lot better than it was, but I rely on good quality make-up to get the finish I want.
Concealer has always been something that is in my handbag, on tap, whenever I need it. So, here is a rundown of my favourite concealers:
Laroc Beginners Collection, Natural Collection:
This is an amazing palette. I cannot praise it enough. You can see from the picture that there are 15 colours in total. When my cheeks look red and blushed, I tone down the red pigmentation with the cool green concealer. I then top this with the nude skin colour. Personally, I use the green underneath my foundation, and then the nude colour on top of my foundation to set the colour. I use the really light colour under my eyes also and it performs miracles in concealing the signs of sleep deprivation.
Jemma Kidd Colour Match Concealer:
This concealer is great for when you have a really bad pimple and need some serious coverage. It is quite thick, so you only need to apply lightly. I always put my foundation on first and top off with the concealer and set with powder.
Avon Ideal Flawless Cream Concealer – Medium:
I tend to use this concealer when I am having a good skin day. It is not as heavy as the Jemma Kidd concealer and provides a much lighter finish. If I have a small blemish this will cover and blend nicely. I would not use this under my eyes as the colour is a little dark, but it is great for the face.
When I say I could not live without this concealer I am being brutally honest. When I have had 2-3 hours sleep (following a long night with my 2 year old), this hides black circles around my eyes. What I love most is that by the end of the day it is not sitting in any fine lines. It looks fresh. If I have a blemish, this will cover it and blend well with my foundation, without leaving a congealed finish.
Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer:
I purchased this foundation when I had left my go-to Lancôme concealer at home and needed a quick pick-up. It was the cheapest of all of my concealers, so I had little expectation for its performance. I can honestly say I will no longer judge products based on price. This concealer gives a great finish and covers the most prominent of spots. On my worst skin days this will cover 99% of the blemishes on my face and blends well with my foundation. What I love most is that I am not left feeling like I have a mask on, even on my worst skin days.
I hope this helps you when you are picking out a concealer. Having blemish prone skin can be a real nightmare, and I am always looking for any recommendations.
