Like every working mum I’m always counting down the days until my next break from work. Leaving my two little ones, Letoya & Ethan every morning at 6:45 am is the hardest part of my day, so when half term is around the corner I like to plan as many activities as possible to have some quality family time.
February half term is always more tricky than others as you can guarantee rain, freezing temperatures and coughs and colds in abundance. However, there are still so many fun things to do, which the lovely British weather does not impede.
We had a lovely morning at The Yard in Stamford. The Yard is an indoor soft play centre in Stamford, Lincs and is open for children upto 7 years. I love bringing my children here because it is great fun and always clean! As a germaphobe and slightly paranoid parent, this is always a massive plus! Oh and did I mention that they do the most amazing home made cake!
On one of the slightly warmer days I took Letoya & Ethan to the park I used to go play in as a child. I love being outdoors when we get the opportunity. Seeing them run around free as birds brings me so much joy. They are such energetic children and given the chance, will always choose outdoors over indoors. What shocked me most is that we were the only people in the park. And this is often the case. Children just don’t seem to play outside anymore. Going back 20 years to my childhood I clearly remember always seeing someone I knew at the park, or playing on their front lawn. It’s quite sad really.
My daughter is really obsessed with stationary, diaries, pens, crayons.. the list goes on! She was begging me all holiday to take her to Accessorize to pick out some new items. So we took a trip into town and went shopping, picking up some new pens and some clothes. As Letoya gets older, her taste in clothes is really evolving. Up to a year I could pick out anything and everything that I liked for her. Now I am bargaining to keep her in the cute outfits that I love, while compromising on what she likes.
Late in the week we had a family birthday party. I relished the opportunity to dress the children in their cutest outfits. But, throw a room full of children all smartly dressed in with bottomless sweets & fizzy drinks, you can guarantee no one will stay looking tidy for long! They had a great time and it was great to see them having so much fun.
Now I am back at work, the children back at school and nursery… And the countdown begins again.
How did you spend half-term? How do you find balancing work and home?
